face of a beautiful woman

After enjoying the summer sun for for the past several months, you may have noticed some new changes in your skin. Brown spots, wrinkles, and photo damage occur quickly without diligent daily sunscreen use. As we settle into fall and the holidays approach, you may want to consider rejuvenating your skin, and stripping away the remnants of those long days in the sun. One effective and safe option is chemical peeling. Chemical peels work by causing temporary injury to the skin surfaces, which allows the upper skin layers to peel off, revealing bright, beautiful, soft skin. After completing the type of peel right for you, you can be assured your skin will be radiant at all your holiday get-togethers.

Superficial Chemical Peels

Superficial chemical peels work to correct mild discoloration, lessen acne breakouts, and to smooth and enhance the natural glow of the skin. They are the mildest type of peel and are often referred to as the “lunch time peel” due to the quick procedure and recovery time. A superficial chemical  peel can be completed in around 30 to 45 minutes, and since the injury to the skin is superficial, patients are able to immediately return to their daily activities with only mild redness. The day of the peel a sterile sponge is used to apply a thin film of solution to the skin. The chemical peel solution used varies per patient and is determined by skin type and the amount of previous photo damage to the skin. Many different types and strengths of superficial peel solutions are available, which allows  Dr. Kayal and his Esthetician to individualize a peel for each patient. After the solution sits for several minutes the peel self neutralizes. Since superficial peels are so gentle on the skin, a series of four to five peels self neutralizes. Since superficial peels are so gentle on the skin, a series of four to five peels are recommended in order to see results comparable to a medium depth peel. After completing a series of peels, a patient will notice a striking reduction in acne, fine wrinkles, pore size, and brown spots related to sun exposure.

Medium Depth Chemical Peel

Medium depth peels allow for much deeper damage to the skin, which results in greater peeling and more noticeable results. Medium depth peels are completed in the office under local anesthetic. After the peel is applied, you may notice some slight stinging and burning of the skin. This sensation is normal and is minimized with the use of anesthetics and cooling fans. After a short period of time, typically around ten minutes, the peel is neutralized and the face is cleaned, cooled, and covered with antibiotic ointment. You are then sent home with instructions on how to care for the skin until you return for your follow-up appointment. Since peeling occurs at a much deeper layer of the skin, results are very impressive. The resurfaced skin will have greatly improved texture and tone with fewer wrinkles and no visible photo damage. With greater penetration in the skin, the down time for recovery is also extended. It is recommended to allow five to six days for recuperation, in which time you remain at home and stay out of the sun. After several days of healing, the skin will heal and reveal fresh new vibrant skin. Complications with chemical peels are rare if completed by an experienced physician such as Dr. Kayal, but may include infection, darkening of the skin, and scarring.

First time ever at a dermatology office! So I was a little nervous... But they have a very friendly staff and it was nice meeting PA Joel! Felt comfortable and he was informative & made me feel like I wasn’t the only person dealing with my issue. I can’t wait to see some results and get some relief!!

I’ve been going here awhile. I’ve got a few pesky issues, some due to my not allowing areas to completely heal, sins that prolongs my already glacier like speed healing! I really appreciate Dr. Kayal and Joel who combine to take of me and my family.

Was greeted upon my arrival, very nice waiting room, was taken back immediately. Very professional, caring and friendly staff. They want to help you. The PA Joel was very knowledgeable and knew exactly how to help me. I was given a prescription to address the problem. Will be back with other issues, keep up the good work.
