With each new year, people are always making goals and resolutions to “do better” in the upcoming twelve months. If you have yet to make any type of goal, Kayal Dermatology would like to give you an idea:

Make 2020 the year you take better care of your skin!

This may sound like a simple goal, but it is one that takes intentionality. Your skin is the largest organ in the body, so taking good care of it should be a priority. Here are four simple steps to help get you started.

  1. Visit the dermatologist. Visiting the dermatologist on an annual basis is important. You need to have an annual skin check with a dermatologist to prevent any serious complications. Routine skin exams are done to get a general baseline for your skin: where moles exist, anything suspicious that needs to be monitored, etc. Your dermatologist understands that there is a wide variety of skin conditions, issues, and diseases that require professional diagnosis and treatment. It is better to be safe than sorry, so make this first step a priority.
  2. Wear sunscreen every day. Yes, it is in the middle of winter, but your skin is still exposed to the sun’s damaging rays. If you get into the habit of wearing sunscreen during the winter, once spring and summer come along and the sun’s UV rays are much more damaging, you will be in the habit of protecting your skin. Wearing an SPF of 30 each day should provide adequate protection.
  3. Exfoliate your skin. Your skin is continually changing. It sloughs off millions of dead skin cells each day, but to truly get rid of them, you need to exfoliate your skin. When you exfoliate, you are allowing fresh, brighter skin cells to shine so that your skin will look better.
  4. Watch your diet. A healthy diet is more important than merely what the numbers reflect on the scale. A healthy diet impacts your entire life, including your skin. Nutritious foods allow your skin to glow, reduce inflammation and breakouts, and help you look younger. Simple changes to reduce processed foods and alcohol can provide considerable benefits to your skin.

At Kayal Dermatology, we want to encourage you to set 2020 Skin Care Goals. Contact us today to schedule an appointment for a skin check, and you’ll be well on your way!
